Apart from the BL series that I’ve been trying to keep up, unsuccessfully I must say, at the moment because there are just so much to keep track of, there are other drama series which have always been my must-watch before I discovered BL dramas a few years ago. They are of course quirky murder mystery series which have always been my guilty pleasures.
Starting with Agatha Christie’s Poirot (Sir David Suchet is the ultimate Poirot) and Miss Marple early on to Midsomer Murders, Death in Paradise, Father Brown, Agatha Raisin, Murdoch Mysteries, Shakespeare and Hathaway (which returns surprisingly in 2025 with Season 5 after a couple of years hiatus), and recent series like McDonald and Dodds, The Chelsea Detective, The Marlow Murder Club, The Madame Blanc Mysteries, and Only Murders in the Building just to name a few… These are drama series I never miss even if some of them have become a little too predictable after a few seasons, LOL, because they are my armchair detective comfort watch. However not to say these murder mystery series are my only must-watch, other comforting series like All Creatures Great and Small (2020 reboot), Ghosts (US remake), and Under The Vines are also my binge-worthy series which I can re-watch when I needed a lift to my mood…
As you can see, nearly all of these are British series which I’m rather partial to because they are particularly good in making quirkiness series. They are also mystery dramas that rely mostly on intellect and deduction rather than reliance on a lot of fancy modern technologies to solve the mysteries. This year there are two more new series which have been added to my watch list, namely Murder Most Puzzling and Murder Before Evensong, which I’ve enjoyed… So below are the trailers of drama series I’m currently watching, or just finished watching recently…
