My Kitchen Rules (2010)
I was never a fan of My Restaurant Rules, didn’t think I even watched a full episode… So without much expectation, I watched the first episode of My Kitchen Rules last night. I thought it was a complete rip-off of Come Dine With Me but without the witty commentary. It was also so slow and dull, halfway through I switched over to watch The Big Bang Theory instead… I think the problem was that there was no head-to-head competition, so there was no tension, or excitment at all from a viewer perspective. I would rather watch a proper cooking show if that’s the case, at least there I can watch the full recipe being made – hint hint Poh’s Kitchen debuts 6:30pm Wednesday February 10 on ABC1. In the meantime, I’ll just watch bits and pieces of it when there’s nothing else to watch and if there are good recipes to collect from the show. I will wait for MasterChef Australia to return in about 3 months’ time for my full commitment…

California Rolls
Update 2 December, 2009: Couldn’t help but have a good hearty laugh over the oddest news coming out of the US of A over the last couple of days! In a hullabaloo over an episode of FlashForward which was screened first here in Australia (screened here on Monday night, November 30, 2009 in Australia) before its scheduled screening in America (Thursday December 3, 2009) due to Thanksgiving holiday over in America last week, the American medias have invented a new holiday for Australia, supposedly we have a ‘Thanksgiving’ holiday in May here in Australia which no one in Australia is awared of! Turkey, anyone? Just go to show we cannot trust anything on the net! LOL…

Southgate Recipe Calendar 2010
Sent in for this free Southgate Recipe Calendar last week and received it in the mail on Friday. It is only available within Australia only, with limited editions! There are recipes from many of the Southgate restaurants inside the calendar. Fantastic calendar, please produce one every year, thank you, Southgate!

7TWO Cooking Shows
7TWO, the second digital channel for the Seven Network will launch on November 1, 2009, with quite a number of cooking shows in their schedule, mostly old British repeats with some new British and US shows which have not been shown here before on free-to-air-TV, in the afternoon timeslot. Could it be the MasterChef effect?

After a long and disheartening decision, I’m going to close down my ‘Home Cooking Club’ forum to new members. It will only remain open to those who have contributed to the forum, other than that, no more new members will be accepted. That means in the future, any password-protected posts here in my blog will only be available to those members only. Please do not appeal to me to share those password-protected recipes here for all.

Update January 15, 2010: ABCTV has released a sneak peek of MasterChef Australia Series 1 (2009) runner-up, Poh Ling Yeow’s new cooking show, Poh’s Kitchen.
Update December 10, 2009: Wow, MasterChef Australia has a lot to account for, even though the original MasterChef in the UK has been going since 1990 over there, no other countries were interested until the Australian version made it a huge hit here and ending the year as the most watched TV show of 2009 in Australia, now following New Zealand and the US versions going ahead in 2010, France has joined the queue to produce their own version of MasterChef!
Update December 8, 2009: MasterChef Australia Series 1 runner-up, Poh Ling Yeow, will host her own cooking show, Poh’s Kitchen, to be screened on ABC1 in 2010
