Behind Cut 비하인드 컷 is the lastest South Korean BL series that premiered on December 28, 2021. It is another typical South Korean short-episode series that is basically a movie-length film split into 8 short episodes for the first broadcast. This series is set in the fashion industry so it’s something new for the BL dramas.

Tinted with You 물들여 is a new 8-episode Korean BL webdrama that premiered on December 23, 2021. It is another one of the Korean short-episode series with about 10-15 minutes per episode and this one has a time-travel plotline.
Boys Over Flowers 花より男子 (or はなよりだんご Hana Yori Dango) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kamio Yōko 神尾葉子 which was serialised from 1992 until 2004. The second season of the manga series, Sunshine After Flowers – Flower Boys Next Season 花のち晴れ〜花男 Next Season〜, was serialised from 2015 until 2019. There have been many adaptations of the original manga series into films and TV series over the years especially the 2001 TV series from Taiwan which became internationally known. The Taiwanese series became so popular that it is now regarded as the originator of “Idol Drama” in Taiwan and also the Chinese entertainment industry. Subsequently other TV and film adaptations were made by Japan (2005, 2007 & 2008), South Korea (2009), China (2018) and most recently Thailand (2021). There were also three unlicensed TV series adaptation from China (2009), India (2014) and Indonesia (2017). However even before 2001, there were a film (1995) and anime (1996, 1997) adaptations from Japan. In 2018, Japan also adapted the second season of the manga into a TV series. (more…)Fake Slackers 偽裝學渣 and Beyond the Outline 這題超綱了 are two high school BL novels by Mu Gua Huang 木瓜黄. They are both high school slice-of-life sweet, funny stories that would be good for brainless light reading during the holidays. I read Fake Slackers (also translated as Underachiever Pretenders) earlier this year and currently reading Beyond the Outline which has a body-swapping plotline, I didn’t mind Fake Slackers but not something I would go back to read again, and Beyond the Outline seems to be going in the same direction for me as the plots seem to be a bit forced, LOL… However for those of you who don’t like angst and prefer sweet stories, these novels might be up your alley.

Say Yes Again 再說一次我願意 is a new Taiwanese movie that will premiere on January 19, 2022. The basic plotline of the movie is a Groundhog-Day of marriage proposal, LOL… The first song from the OST was released way back on August 14, 2021 on the day of the Chinese Valentine’s Day (七夕節 which occurs every year on the 7th day of the 7th month on the Chinese lunar calendar). I also found 2 official posters for the movie, and interestingly the first one has a date of September 3 on it which I guess might have been the original release date for the movie (?), but was delayed after the poster was released, now the movie will officially be released early next year!
Komorebi 日光樹影 is the final of the 2021’s 10-film GagaOOLala LGBTQ series that premiered on December 17, 2021. Komorebi, or 木漏れ日, is a Japanese term meaning “sunlight filtering through the leaves of the trees”. Below are the trailer and the theme song…
The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window さんかく窓の外側は夜 (Sankaku Mado no Sotogawa wa Yoru, Chinese title is 三角窗外是黑夜) is a 12-episode Japanese BL anime series that aired from October 3, 2021 to December 19, 2021. It is adapted from the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Yamashita Tomoko ヤマシタトモコ that was first serialised in 2013. It was also adapted into a live-action film that premiered on January 22, 2021 earlier this year. This BL is very different to the usual BL as it has mystery and supernatural elements in it.
Yesterday I was browsing through Jinjiang Literature City looking for a new online novel to read for the holiday season, and also looking at the Top 200 BL novels on that site for new popular novels. Alas, I was quite dismayed to find that two of the top 3 novels I checked last time in August have disappeared from the list. I quickly did a search and realized that the two novels have been banned in China since just a couple of months ago, WHAT?! That means we can no longer read them on the official site. One of the novels was one of my favourite BL novels, Saye 撒野!
