Gold Leaf 茶金 is a new 12-episode Taiwanese drama series that premiered on November 13, 2021. It is the story of the tea industry in Taiwan in the 1950s. It’s a mutli-dialect/multi-language drama and also the first Taiwanese drama to use Hailu Hakka 海陸腔客語 dialect as the main dialogue, while Mandarin, Hokkien, English, Japanese, and Shanghainese are also being used in the drama.
Very surprised to find this! This is the Thai cover of the hit Mandarin song from 2019 originally sang by en which I posted previously. This Thai version has just been released in Taiwan and I’m not sure if it has already been released in Thailand or if it has an official Thai MV for the song as I could not find any information for that.
(more…)WBL Boys’ Vacation is an 8-episode reality TV show featuring the 6 actors from the two seasons of the WBL TV series from earlier this year. It premiered on November 12, 2021 and will continue airing new episode every Friday night. Very interesting with the play on words with the WBL name in Chinese 微波爐 which means microwave oven, so in Chinese the title translated as Microwave Oven Boys’ Vacation, LOL… Well, it is because the pinyin of 微波爐 is wei bo lu which abbreviated as wbl, very clever, LOL… It also has the connotation that they are the generation who only know how to use microwave oven and don’t know how to cook, and now they have to go camping without any microwave oven! Anyway the audio theme song has just been released and it is performed by the 6 actors. The official MV of the song will premiere on November 19, 2021.

My Beautiful Man 美しい彼 (Utsukushii Kare 美麗的他) is a new 10-episode (Update December 24, 2021: Just watched episode 6 and it was the final episode! Oh well, never mind, the next Japanese BL-ish series is not too far away, Kei x Yaku will premiere on January 13, 2022…) Japanese BL series that will premiere on November 18, 2021. The series is adapted from the BL novel series of the same name by Nagira Yuu 凪良ゆう. Three volumes of the novel series have been published so far, and the first volume published in 2014 won first place in the Best Novel category at the 6th Chill-Chill BL Awards in 2015.
The preview of the opening and closing credits songs have been released, about 30 seconds each. I’ll add the official MVs here if and when they are available…

Not to be confused with the 2019’s Thai BL TV series, Until We Meet Again, this is a new Taiwanese movie called Till We Meet Again 月老 that premiered at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea on July 8, 2021, but will have its general cinema release in Taiwan on November 24, 2021. However it had its advance screening for Taiwanese students just a couple of days ago on November 6, 2021, and apparently got quite good feedbacks. The movie is based on the very popular novel of the same name published in 2002 written by Giddens Ko 九把刀 (under the pseudonym of “Nine Knives”), who also wrote the screenplay and directed the movie. This novel has been the most anticipated of all Giddens’ novels to be turned into a film version by fans… You may remember Giddens Ko as the director of the 2011’s box office hit You Are the Apple of My Eye 那些年，我們一起追的女孩, based on his semi-autobiographical novel of the same name.

(more…)Currently reading this BL webnovel, Poyun 破雲 written by Huai Shang 淮上, first uploaded online starting in December 2017 and the main story completed in July 2018, then 6 more extra epilogue chapters completed in September 2018. The novel has been translated into English as Breaking Through the Clouds. It is a crime investigation story involving illegal drugs and murders. I’m about 30-something chapters in at the moment and it is a very plot driven story. If you like Modu 默讀 by Priest, you are going to love this too. Whereas Modu is quite heavy reading, Poyun has quite a lot of humour, especially between the two protagonists, to break the heaviness of the main plot.
(more…)Moneyboys 金錢男孩 is a new LGBTQ+ movie that premiered at Cannes Film Festival on July 12, 2021, but will have its general public premiere in Taiwan on November 19, 2021. The movie theme song’s MV has just been released and it is a song from F.I.R. 飛兒樂團 latest album, Diamond Heart 鑽石之心 called Someday, but the song title has been extended to become Someday We May Love as the theme song for the movie.

To be honest, I’ve been a bit bored with the recent numbers of Thai BL series, I basically watched the first couple of episodes and then dropped them quick smart! However seeing that this series is from GMMTV, I’ve a bit more confident it will at the very least be watchable… It has been a while since GMMTV has a BL series on, if I remember correctly, the last new series was Fish Upon the Sky in April?
Bad Buddy แค่เพื่อนครับเพื่อน premiered last night, October 29, 2021, and it will have a total of 12 episodes. I’m hoping this series will be quite good, fingers crossed, because one of the leads, Ohm Pawat, was in the excellent He’s Coming to Me from 2019 which would be one of my top 5 Thai BL series! I’m not familiar with the other lead, Nanon Korapat, but he’s singing the theme song for this new series.
