Another BL drama from Japan which premiered on July 17, 2021 with a total of 6 episodes. It is astonishing how many BL dramas are released in Asia this year and so hard to keep on top of! Given ギヴン is a live-action drama based on the manga series of the same name. The manga series has already been adapted into an audio drama and anime TV series and film previously, and this live-action TV drama is the latest incarnation. Although this is another campus drama, its central story is an amateur rock band, so it is something new in the world of BL.

Siew Sum Noi เสี่ยวซำน้อย (Thai TV OST)
I just finished with House of the Dark Shadows, a Thai series which is known only by its Thai name, Reuan Rom Ngiw, earlier this week which was very entertaining to watch. Now I’ve discovered another Thai series without an official English title. It is just known by its Thai name Siew Sum Noi, and obviously the title confuses everyone that it has no English translated title but it has 3 translated Chinese titles of either 青春摯友 (Intimate Friends of Youth), 苦甜之戀 (Bitter Sweet Love), or 好膽你就愛 (Be Brave to Love). I read somewhere that Siew Sum Noi is a phrase in Isan dialet meaning My Little Friend.
It is a 12-episode BL series that premiered on May 12, 2021 in Thailand and now near the end of its first run, with 2 more episodes to go I think. I binged 5 epsiodes the last couple of days and really enjoyed the series. I’ve dropped a lot of Thai or Korean BL series this year after just a couple of episodes, either due to slow-as-snail story-telling, wooden acting, or silly sugary sweet plots. However surprisingly most of the acting by the young actors in Siew Sum Noi are quite natural and the plots move along nicely without too much filler scenes. It is also another series set in the northeast of Thailand (same as Hometown’s Embrace), apart from the Bangkok campus setting in the early episodes. Nice to see that Thai BL dramas have started to move away from full campus stories and out of the Bangkok setting.

You Who Love 105°C 熱愛105°C的你 – A Si 阿肆
This is a song that has become very popular recently, but was originally released as a advertisement jingle in 2019. It was a jingle for Watsons Water 屈臣氏蒸餾水 which employs 105°C high pressure distillation for their bottled water, hence the temperature of 105°C in the song. Well, so what makes it suddenly become so popular right now?

【OST】10 Songs from Thai BL Dramas by Boy Sompob
Came across this yesterday. It is an audio playlist of 10 OST songs from Thai BL dramas sung by Boy Sompob. They include songs from one of my favourite BL dramas, Until We Meet Again, and other popular dramas like Love by Chance, Lovesick, Water Boyy and another series I have not heard of, The Effect. I only started to listen to Thai songs just last year because of Thai BL dramas, and these are some of my favourites, so here they are, enjoy…

Light on Me 새빛남고 학생회 (Korean Webdrama OST)
Light on Me is a new 16-episode South Korean BL series that premiered on June 29, 2021. The drama is based on a BL visual novel developed by Day7 for mobile called Saebit Boys Student Association, where players role-play as the protagonist and they can pick and develop a romantic relationship with various attractive boys in school whom they love the most. That’s hilarious! Does that mean only boys can play this game since it is BL? Will the web police check who’s playing the game? OK, be serious… Hmmm, now where was I? Oh, the OST, the first song from the drama has just been released…

The Yearbook หนังสือรุ่น (Thai Series OST)
The Yearbook is another new Thai BL series that will premiere on July 15, 2021 with a total of 10 episodes. There are so many BL series this year it is hard to keep up with, LOL… And I have to pick and choose interesting ones to watch… This one does look interesting as it is set in the early 2000 (watch out for Bananas in Pyjamas references), and it is based on a short film school project by Mean Phiravich, an actor who is well known to BL series watchers. He played the role of Tin in both series of the Love by Chance franchise, and also the role of Alex in Until We Meet Again. Mean also directed this new series. The first song has already been uploaded to YouTube, so here it is…

Ossan’s Love HK (Hong Kong Series OST) 港版《大叔的愛》電視劇主題曲
Dai Suk’s Love is the first BL series from Hong Kong, a remake of the Japanese one-off episode from 2016, and also a 7-episode series from 2018, Ossan’s Love 大叔的愛. The series premiered on June 28, 2021 with 15 episodes in total. According to reports, the first episode broke the record as the most watched episode ever on ViuTV streaming platform. I have yet to watch this remake series but reviewers have been quite positve as it is quite faithful to the original Japanese version, which I did enjoy watching. Below is the main theme song from Dai Suk’s Love.

Call It What You Want 2 จะรักก็รักเหอะ2 (Thai Series OST)
OK, I must admit I gave up on watching season 1 of Call It What You Want 戀愛無名氏 after 3 episodes due to the plot being told so slowly it sent me to sleep, LOL… I know they have good intention of showing us what happens behind the scenes of the BL industry, but like many BL shows, the plots are usually simple yet they told it in such a way that it drags along without anything much happening for most of the time, just a lot of fan-service scenes. So you might be asking, why am I bothering with the upcoming Season 2 now? Well, it is because of the OST!
