This song is the opening credits theme song to Taiwanese BL web drama, HIStory 3 – Make Our Days Count (HIStory 3 《那一天》). The first time I heard the song late last year, I thought it was good but not really memorable. At the time I did try to search for the drama to watch online but was not able to find any results, well, only preview or promos but no full episodes, so I totally put it out of my mind.
If you have watched the Strawberry Mille-Crêpe Roll video I posted recently, and your eyes are piqued, like myself, by a drama poster on the background with Valentine’s Day date on it… Well, I was curious and searched for it, and it is a BL drama, Because of You 2020 (2020 因為愛你)! So if you are wondering what the term BL is, it stands for Boys’ Love, a Japanese term for gay. OK, I admit I have never heard of the term myself until last year, LOL…
Last week, an entertainment site had a story on another BL drama from Thailand, 2gether, and proclaimed that it is the hottest BL drama at the moment. With so much reality TV shows on TV nowadays, and I don’t watch them except for MasterChef (gave up on My Kitchen Rules a couple of years ago), so there’s virtually nothing to watch on TV early evening most nights, except either watch something recorded, or to go to streaming dramas or go searching for web dramas… So I started watching this series, and LOL, it is so ridiculously funny, the plot is just so improbable, a bit like car-crash TV, but you still can’t stop watching! It is still going and have to wait until Saturday when new episode goes online…
As it was, nothing much happening last weekend, I suddenly remembered this theme song to the web drama, and I searched for it again, and lo and behold, found it this time. I actually planned to space it out and watched the series over a week or so, maybe an episode a day, there are only 10 episodes of about 45 minutes each. Well, after the first episode, I could not stop and ended up watching the whole 10 episodes over the weekend! I only knew the series by its Chinese title initially, which is 那一天 meaning That Day, but then I noticed the English title, and it spoiled what is going to happen… The lyrics to the ending credits theme song also spelled the direction the drama is going! Anyway after watching the series, this song is now so poignant to listen to, and I am liking it more and more because of the story behind it!
Update March 16, 2020: Came across this behind the scenes footage of the two leads preparing to record the song with Bingchih Xiao, quite funny with the two of them trying to guess Mayday’s songs…
