After more than a year, the airdate for the Thai BL series, 1000 Stars (a.k.a. A Tale of Thousand Stars 千星記/千星傳說), has finally been announced. It will premiere on January 29, 2021. The song, Longer than Ever, was used as the BGM song for the mock trailer in 2019, so now I’m not sure if it is still the main theme song for the TV series because in the official new trailer just released yesterday, the BGM is a different song. If or until the new official theme song is released, here’s the MV for Longer than Ever which I really like and has been listening to it since last year…

Update April 3, 2021: OK, final verdict… Not the best series, just an above average one, I would give it maybe 7/10. It is a shame because it has such a great potential with such a good concept at the beginning. I enjoyed Tonhon Chonlatee more than this series even though my expectation of 1000 Stars was way higher than Tonhon Chonlatee. The final episode of 1000 Stars is very weak, and dragged on too much with cliché, supposedly “emotional” plotlines. When you watch the final episode which should be exciting and emotional leaving you no time to think too much, but instead you get bored and your mind kept saying, this doesn’t make sense; that doesn’t make sense, don’t be so stupid to the two main leads, something is wrong, LOL… And then I was thinking if Tian was a female character, it would just be another helpless princess waiting for her Prince charming to rescue her plotlines. Seriously I would have loved to see Tian grow stronger with his will power in the last two episodes than being manipulated by his parents. Why didn’t some of Torfun’s strong character rub off on him? It is also hard to believe someone who was portrayed as rebellious and boozing and drag-racing in the first episode can become a cry baby and meek in the final episode! OK, I may accept the complete change in personality if this was a brain-transplant story, but heart-transplant can change a person basic characteristic? That’s just lazy writing!
And then the mother, seriously her emotional outburst of wanting to give her heart to Tian totally got killed off in the last episode. Did she really care for her son? Now he has a new heart and healthy, it is like OK, don’t really give a sh*t anymore about your wellbeing – Just do what I tell you to do, whether it makes you happy or not, just make me happy…
Oh, two years has passed, the students still haven’t grown up and no new students, LOL… Studying two years overseas (and supposedly no contacts between the two, hello we are in 2021 with social media and internet, not 20 or 30 years ago) just to get back being a volunteer teacher, that’s just a stupid plot in order to do the “emotional” farewell scenes, I was rolling my eyes instead of getting “emotional”! I am not against cliché plotlines, but it has to move the plot along and fit the storyline. The going overseas then returned to volunteering with no advancement in the story just felt a waste of time and so it is a big ask for the viewers and very difficult to get emotionally connected to the story! If they really want to get the two to separate temporarily, there are two big elephants of reasons to use, since one of them has a new heart, the other a dangerous job, what about using those reasons to make them stay apart…
The story of heart transplant is such a unique plot and they did not make use of it apart from the fact that it came from Torfun! If they haven’t kept telling us Tian has Torfun’s heart, we would not be able to tell Tian was a heart transplant patient after the first few episodes, and it could have been just a story of a normal healthy Tian who thought he killed Torfun in a drunken state, felt guilty and went to finish her wishes! And the last scene of Phupha getting an emergency call just to find Tian there, really??? Was that a breach of using emergency call, there should be a warning on screen like in many other Thai series that said inappropriate behaviour, do not imitate, LOL… And then, Phupha the Green Giant answered the emergency call ALL BY HIMSELF, because he is invincible… Wait, no, that should another green giant The Incredible Hulk… So many holes in that setup, I thought I was watching 1000 Holes… Compared this storyline with a similar setup in Cherry Magic, Cherry Magic did it 100% better with the rooftop firework scene. There we got the feeling their hearts belong to each other, here it was like they needed a prank to push them together.
And finally the biggest mystery in the final episode! The mother from the airport scene did not know of Tian relationship with Phupha, the reason she wanted to send Tian overseas was to prevent him from going back to the village to continue being a volunteer teacher. Then how after two years studying overseas, Tian just went back to the village without any problems from the parents. If he could just easily do that, why go overseas in the first place? Oh, as I said before, they wanted to force down our throats that “emotional” farewell scene at the airport, geezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…
