Bite Me ส่งร้อนเสิร์ฟรัก is a new 10-episode Thai BL series that will premiere on August 29, 2021. It is based on the novel Grab a Bite ส่งร้อน เสิร์ฟรัก written by Sammon, who is also the author of the novel Manner of Death which was adapted into a TV series that aired late last year.
The series is a story about a chef and a food delivery boy, and the plot also involves a MasterChef-like TV show called The Chef Master. I was intrigued and searched for a English translated novel to read, but was very disappointed to find the only translated novel I could find was so badly translated that I suspect it was just lifted directly from MTL (Machine Translation). In the end I just looked for the original Thai text and MTLed it myself into both English and Chinese and read them that way, LOL… At least reading both translations, anything that is difficult to translate into English can be understood in the Chinese translation, and vice versa! Even doing it this way, the nuances and other details of the story are still lost and basically I can only understand the base storyline… At the moemnt, I am up to chapter 12 and it is quite a sweet and fluffy story so far… So I am actually looking forwards to the TV series, and hopefully they did it justice. Anyway the first song has been released and here it is…

Update September 9, 2021: Just watched the first two episodes… I was really looking forward to this series because of the subject but very disappointing to say the plot was so slow and the acting, the less said the better… It was not even a slow burn plot, at least in slow burn, something is burning to hook you in to watch, this show is at best just meandering along going nowhere! I thought I was watching 2 episodes of staring contest between the chef and the delivery boy 🤤 The first episode was basically Aek walked into the restaurant looking like he’s just entered outer space, he then stared at the 2 girls at the counter, the 2 girls stared back for a while, then the chef handed the food to Aek, more long and ernest staring… A few minutes later, Aek came back to the restaurant with his friends, chef came out to talk to him, more staring between the two, and episode ended with chef putting apron on Aek, another staring contest began… Even the delicious-looking food can’t rescue the slow plotline, that was even when I watched it at 2x speed, it still felt slow! Then the second episode was basically advertisement for all the sponsors of the show with minimal plot, and the sudden introduction of the bitchy Eve character was just odd 😖 For shock value I guess, in the novel she has a softer introduction with explanation for her behaviour at least. I hope it will improve but not very likely, I will give it another go with a couple more episodes and decide if I should drop this series completely and just finish reading the novel instead.
Update September 15, 2021: Finished MTLed the novel… Have to say it is a very cute story aimed at older teenagers and young adults as the plot is very simple but still entertaining to read, though not something you would go back and re-read again. Unfortunately based on the first couple of episodes of the TV series, they basically turned the two interesting characters into two AI-like personalities who only knows how to stare at each other! In the novel, Chef Aue has an outwardly confident, almost arrogant personality, but a very caring, loving characteristic underneath the skin. He is also shy about starting a relationship with Aek due to a past bad incident when he was young even though it was love at first sight with Aek. He is cute in the beginning too when he’s too shy to talk to Aek and kept making bird cupcakes in frustrations, LOL… On the other hand Aek is a poor student who supported himself by doing odd jobs to pay for his tuition fees. He was also confused by the chef giving him free food! The TV series skipped all the initial interesting interaction between the two and went straight to staring at each other! The frustrating thing about MTLing the novel is the very confusing names and the translation of pronouns. Aue and Aek were spelled in so many ways I sometimes got so confused thinking another character has appeared out of nowhere. It took me a while to realize “Donna” and “major” referred to Aek, LOL, maybe they were endearing terms in Thai language, but so odd after the machine translation! Also “I” and “me” are translated as “you”, “he” became “she” constantly which is very confusing to read! And then Google Translate thought it was a BG story so “boyfriend” became translated as “girlfriend” all the time, LOL…
Anyway a new song has been released, might as well listen to the song while reading the novel instead of the TV series…
