Malaysian rapper/singer/songwriter, Namewee, and Australian singer who is based in Taiwan, Kimberley Chen, has created controversy with their duet, Fragile. The Chinese title of the song, 玻璃心, actually translated directly as Heart of Glass. With the cancel culture in China recently concerning a number of entertainers, it is no surprise the song has immediately been banned in China and both singers have also been cancelled in China. However the song has rapidly gained popularity with the music video currently trending at #4 on YouTube and reaching over 19 millions views in just 2 weeks after its release, quite a feat for a Mandopop song…

Click here for a very good English explanation of the song – except for some minor mistakes, first he got Namewee’s Chinese name back to front, it is 明志 (Míngzhì) which has the same pronunciation as 名字 (name), hence Name-Wee, where Wee is a dialet pronunciation of his surname. Also in the song there’s a mention of 爺爺 (yéyé, or 爷爷 in simplified Chinese) which is grandfather, not “uncle” which he translated, as grandfather is usually associated with head of the family.
