I am reading a couple of new Chinese BL novels currently, one of course is the latest on-going 188 series, Alpha Predator 頂級掠食者 by Shui Qian Cheng 水千丞, and the other I’ve just finished reading is the newest novel San Fu 三伏 by Wu Zhe 巫哲. San Fu is another campus BL, and to be honest I really did not like the spoiled rich brat Jiang Kuo 江闊 in the beginning but luckily warmed to him by the end! The reason I started to read San Fu was because I found out that Jiang Cheng 蔣丞 from her other novel, Saye 撒野, would make an appearance as a lawyer in it, and happy to say Gu Fei 顧飛 also appeared briefly at the end!
Alpha Predator is currently up to 50-something chapters and the angst has just started but at one new chapter released per weekday, I decided to find another lighter novel to read concurrently. Because I really enjoyed the humorous Mr. Dior 迪奧先生 by Lv Ye Qian He 綠野千鶴, I decided on Temporary Bodyguard 臨時保鏢 by this same author. So far so good, it is a light, humorous supernatural story. Although it has a crime plotline, it is not a dark and moody sort of story which fits the bill to read at the same time with Alpha Predator.

Quite early in the novel, one of the protagonists Di Chen (can also be pronounced as Zhai Chen*) 翟辰 folded a napkin into a mouse. Believe it or not, I have not heard or seen this trick before in my life, so I have to look it up, LOL…* The reason I think the surname 翟 is pronounced as Di here and not Zhai because the other protagonist’s surname is Gao 高 (meaning high) and knowing this author likes to play with words, Di 翟 sounds like 低 (meaning low), the exact opposite of Gao 高… (Update March 26, 2022: OK, got it wrong, LOL… The surname 翟 is pronounced Zhai here, it was mentioned in the second crime arc, the name was to rhyme with 摘星星 (翟辰 = 翟星星) meaning to catch a star where the star has specific meaning in the plotline.)
