【Gardening】Aroids

I have been getting into aroids recently. In the past, I did have a fruit salad plant, Monstera deliciosa, but I have to get rid of it as it was getting too big and took up too much space in my little balcony. Another reason was there were already a couple of this plant in the garden beds around the courtyard downstairs in my apartment block, so I can still enjoy this plant without having another one taking up space in my balcony. I also had a rabbit’s foot plant, Maranta leuconeura ‘Kerchoviana’, for many years but it rotted last Spring which was sad…

Then the last few years, I started getting into indoor plants starting with small plants like African violets, cacti/succulents and peperomias, and I also rescued a Ctenanthe setosa ‘Grey Star’ someone tossed out. Early this year I got a peacock plant, Calathea makoyana, which was a favourite plant from my childhood. Then a few weeks ago, I came across a gorgeous potplant of all places but in my local supermarket. It was an aroid, Alocasia ‘Black Velvet’ and without any hesitation, I bought it. Then I got another aroid, Philodendron ‘Birkin’, just a fortnight ago. At the same time I started to watch a lot of videos about aroids on YouTube as well, so I thought I would link some of those videos here for inspirations and also ideas to look after my new plants as I’m sure I will get more of these beautiful aroids in the future.

  1. Love the Aroids… thanks for videos, too. Have saved them for a rainy day.
