I’m currently immensed in the ancient Mouse-Cat series of BL novels by Er Ya 耳雅. For those of you not familiar with the Mouse-Cat 鼠貓 characters in Chinese literature, they are a couple of Chinese knights-errant during the Song Dynasty told in the classic 1879 Chinese martial arts novel, The Three Heroes and Five Gallants 三俠五義 (later republished in 1889 as The Seven Heroes and Five Gallants 七俠五義). The two characters, mouse and cat are the nicknames given to Bai Yutang 白玉堂 who is the youngest of the five gallants known as the Sleek Rat 錦毛鼠, and Zhan Zhao 展昭 who is one of the heroes, the Southern Hero 南俠, also known as the Imperial Cat 御貓. These ancient mouse-cat BL novel series are the ancient equivalence to the modern mouse-cat in the S.C.I. Mystery Series by the same author, Er Ya 耳雅, with nearly all the same characters (not surprising since they are all characters adapted from the 1879 novel but with the addition of BL elements) but here set in ancient time during the 11th-century Song Dynasty.
