Revenged Love 逆愛 (Chinese Series OST)

Revenged Love 逆愛 is a 24-episode Chinese BL series that premiered on June 16, 2025, of course for international releases only outside China. It is a remake of the 8-episode Chinese series from 2015, Counter Attack: Falling in Love with a Rival 逆襲之愛上情敵. Both series are adapted from the classic BL novel Counter Attack 逆襲 by Chai Ji Dan 柴雞蛋 who is best known for her other acclaimed BL novel Are You Addicted? 你丫上瘾了 which has been adapted into a few Chinese and Thai versions of web drama in recent years.

Before you continue reading, there are very frightening happenings in China right now regarding danmei (BL) writers. The news about the arrest of danmei writers has been percolating since the end of last year, but it seems it is now spreading across China, very sad… Very hypocritical to target the individuals while letting the international branch of their big corporate media companies to broadcast BL dramas outside China… Well, you know what because they make money, while the helpless individuals who write those stories are being jailed…

To get back at his ex-girlfriend, depressed Wu Suo Wei decides to ‘tease’ her current boyfriend Chi Cheng. What starts out as mutual dislike and misunderstandings turns into an ambiguous relationship full of chance encounters, romantic entanglements and more. Just as their relationship develops, the ex returns, secrets are revealed, and identities upturned – is there a future to be had for the two?

Born into a humble family with little financial success, Wu Suo Wei (Zi Yu) finds himself constantly insulted by his much wealthier (now-ex) girlfriend. He decides to reinvent himself and start his own business, only to constantly cross paths with Chi Cheng (Tian Xu Ning), the spoiled heir to his own family’s business. When Suo Wei finds out that his ex is dating Chi Cheng, he decides to get his revenge – by seducing Chi Cheng himself! Despite having no previous romantic inclination towards men, Suo Wei gives it his all and manages to win Chi Cheng over, but is shocked to find himself developing genuine romantic feelings. As their lives grow increasingly tangled together, things only get more complicated for Suo Wei. Will this unexpected love story work out, or has Suo Wei’s plan gone way too far?

I don’t know why Mainland Chinese artists bothered with YouTube videos, more often than not, they made them unavailable within a few days. No wonder pirated videos are so prolific with songs from Chinese artists since official videos are usually unavailable on YouTube… I started preparing this post over the weekend and scheduled it for today (Tuesday), this video was still available a couple of days ago, now it is gone!

Update June 26, 2025: LOL, found the song again on a different release address…

Like Roses (Ep 1 insert song) – Glacier & Summit
Somewhere in Your Eyes (Ep 4 insert song) – Paper Swans

OK, I read the novel quite a few years ago, but could not remember much of it, LOL… So I am re-reading it again, now recollecting that it is a slapstick comedy story. The name Wu Qi Qiong 吴其穹, and later he changed it to Wu Suo Wei 吴所畏 is so funny if you know Chinese. Qi Qiong 其穹 actual meaning is very lofty, the same sound of Qi (can be pronounced as Ji if used as a name) Qiong written as 其穷 means very poor (why Yue Yue wanted to break up with him because he’s poor & stingy), so the author is playing wordgame with his name. Now Wu Suo Wei 吴所畏 sounds exactly like Wu Suo Wei 无所谓 which can mean It Doesn’t Matter, Never Mind, or Don’t Care. Therefore whenever he was asked what’s his name after he changed name, he answered but the other person just thought he said Doesn’t Matter, LOL…

Also they changed a bit from the novel with the brick plot, in the novel Qi Qiong said he would die for Yue Yue, and knocked himself on the head with the brick, and he did it at least three times until his head became harden from hitting, LOL… The first time it took him about two months to heal, second time about a couple of weeks to heal, and third time just a couple of days to heal! Later of course he used that trick (hitting his head with bricks) to street perform as a way to earn money, the idiot, LOL… The novel is also funnier in that Wu Suo Wei sold congee instead of sugar figurines, and he added so much additives to make the congee more viscous, that when he poured it over Chi Cheng in order to run away, the congee stuck to Chi’s hair and he couldn’t wash it off and have to totally shave his hair. Later when he caught Wu Suo Wei again he also shaved Wu Suo Wei‘s head as well for revenge… BTW, Wu Suo Wei is also colour blind in the novel so there are some anecdotal funny incidents with colours, like wearing pink underwear because he saw it as grey colour.
