Girl 女孩 is a Taiwanese coming-of-age film which premiered on September 4, 2025 at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. It will be released on October 31, 2025 across theatres in Taiwan. The film is the directorial debut of Taiwanese actress Shu Qi 舒淇 who also wrote the film script based on her semi-autobiographical early life growing up in Taiwan.
In 1988 Taiwan, Keelung Harbour was shrouded in smoke and dust as the world advanced. Growing up in confusion, Lin Hsiaoli longed to escape the darkness. It wasn’t until she met Li Lili, a girl who lived freely and fearlessly, that she began to see the world in all its colors.
However, this yearning triggered past traumas in her mother, Ah Chüan. She, too, had longed for the future, only to be trapped by reality. A girl and a woman, their intertwined destinies mirrored each other, each reflecting their own wounds like a mirror, yet unable to do anything about them.
