Yay… They are back~ Our precious MaoMao and her handsome bug Jinshi are back to solve more mysteries in the palace and there will be more new supporting characters being introduced. Yes, season 2 of The Apothecary Diaries premiered on January 10, 2025 with another 24 episodes released weekly starting with episode 25 (not the usual numbering of episode 1, season 2). The first season was the most streamed anime in Japan last year according to Japan’s streaming platform, U-Next. Since season 1 covered the stories in Volumes 1 and 2 of the light novel by Hyūga Natsu 日向夏, season 2 will cover Volumes 3 and 4 if I assume correctly… The light novel is now up to Volume 15 with the latest volume published in 2024, so hopefully we can look forwards to many more seasons to come…

Emerald Hill 小娘惹之翡翠山 (Singaporean Series OST)

Emerald Hill 小娘惹之翡翠山 is an upcoming 30-episode Singaporean period drama series which will premiere on streaming platforms from March 10, 2025 in Singapore and other Southeast Asian countries, and will be available on free-to-air TV in Singapore on March 19, 2025. It is the much anticipated spin-off to the 2008’s very popular and acclaimed series The Little Nyonya 小娘惹. Although we still have to wait for the series to premiere in about two months’ time, the theme song has already been released and is now sitting at the number 2 spot this week on the Mandarin music chart in Singapore, looking to claim the top spot next week.

I’ll Turn Back This Time 這次換我先回頭 is a 6-episode Chinese BL series (outside China only) which premiered on January 11, 2025, interestingly first in South Korea on KMH in the early morning, then in the evening across international platforms such as Heavenly, YouTube, Facebook, & GagaOOLala. It is made by the same team behind last year’s series Meet You at the Blossom 花開有時頹靡無聲, so it is no surprise the two side leads in that series are now the two main leads in this new series.

Ossan’s Love Thailand รักนี้ให้ “นาย” is a 12-episode Thai BL series which premiered on January 6, 2025. It is the second international remake following a Hong Kong remake in 2021 of the Japanese new year’s eve special comedy BL drama from 2016 which was later remade into a 7-episode Japanese series in 2018.

The Boy Next World คนละกาลเวลา is a 10-episode Thai BL series which premiered on January 5, 2025. It is adapted from the novel of the same name by MAME. It is in the same universe as the TharnType series by the same author and can be considered as a spin-off prequel to TharnType 2: 7 Years of Love from 2020.

【Gardening】Primulinas and Succulents

My Primulina yungfuensis, 永福皮草 or 永福報春苣苔 in Chinese, surprised me by flowering on the first day of the new year! It was sitting on the second shelf in the corner of my balcony because it prefers shade as it is related to the common African violets. When I gave it a quick water during the Christmas and New Year period, I haven’t really looked at it carefully for a couple of weeks, so did not even notice its flower stalks forming, LOL… Then on the second day of the new year, I was watering it again and noticed some light magenta white things floating on top of the leaves, they are flowers just starting to bloom!
