Desired by My Unknown Husband is a 60-episode British short-form BL drama series on DramaBox which started streaming on December 31, 2024. It follows another two English language BL series, My Secret Agent Husband, and The Mafia’s Obsession, also available on DramaBox. I must say although I don’t like short-form dramas, I am beginning to be sucked in to these English BL dramas, more hilarious and not taking themselves seriously than the current bunch of Thai BL, where you would be lucky to get one watchable one out of 50…
This new series is very typical of the bossy, domineering CEO trope which is so ubiquitous in Chinese dramas, except now we get the western gay version, LOL… The title is also weird, unknown husband? To me that would indicate marrying without knowing, meeting or seeing the other person, which doesn’t make sense, unless marrying when you are unconscious or in a coma, or you are Lakan (The Apothecary Diaries fans will understand). Stranger or Forgotten Husband would make much more sense, anyway just my pickiness, LOL…
Anyway I also found out that a lot of the crews in the production have Chinese names, including the scriptwriter, which would explain, or not, the sudden unfathomable switching from speaking English to Mandarin by the Chinese lawyer in the drama… That just made me go, what the?????????? In fact I go, WHAT THE, and laugh from beginning to the end of the whole drama! The plot is so cheesy and hilarious I could not stop watching even though it is so unbelievable, it is slapstick trying to be serious, LOL… However I must say one good thing about these English BL is that at least we get to see adults in the leading roles (are they still BL, more like men’s love, LOL), I am so over watching BL with young actors…
