Mafia Lover is a 20-episode British vertical BL series that was first released on January 31, 2025 (?). This is the fourth English language vertical BL series from DramaBox, so now we have 2 mafias, 1 secret agent and 1 CEO English BL stories from the app. Hopefully next they can expand on the type of stories in terms of occupation of the protagonists… By the way, season 2 of My Secret Agent Husband is also out now, although I haven’t watched it yet…
This one is a much shorter series compared to the 3 earlier DramaBox BL series, just about one hour for the full series. One of the things I like about these vertical series is that I can binge watch the full series in under 2 hours for a good laugh, so something to do when I have a couple of hours free and not have to wait for episodes week by week like the normal series… Another thing that attracts me to these English BL is the more mature theme in the stories, even if they are sometimes so goofy and cheesy, LOL… They are also tighter in the story telling and no filler scenes, so they keep you interested every minute. I am starting to move away from Thai BL because I find nearly 80 to 90% of the series are very fan-service, and often so many filler scenes for fans shipping the actors that rather than having interesting good strong plots, they dragged out the episodes. That said, I still like to listen to their OST even though many a time I dropped the series after the first couple of episodes, LOL… The last Thai BL series that I watched to the end was Century of Love, and that was months ago… The BL series from Japan is the most diverse and interesting due to the fact that a lot of them are adapted from manga or novels, and they also made mature BLs which I much prefer to watch also. In terms of Taiwanese BL, I am a bit sick of the step-brother trope whereas Korean BL generally are too short each episode, and very frustrating having to wait one more week for another episode of just 10 or 15 minutes and usually I forgot to watch the next episode and moved on to another series. Therefore I am glad to have the alternatives of these English BLs to watch nowadays, and they endured multiple watch for a good laugh.
