Blood River 暗河傳 (Ànhé Zhuàn* direct translation is Tales of Dark River) is a 38-episode Chinese wuxia series which premiered on October 20, 2025. It is adapted from the webnovel of the same name by Zhou Mu Nan 周木楠. Two of the author’s other novels in the same series have already been adapted into drama series previously – Dashing Youth 少年白馬醉春風 in 2024 (prequel to Blood River), and The Blood of Youth 少年歌行 in 2022 (sequel to Blood River). There is also another sequel The Blood of Youth Season 2 少年歌行之南明離火 yet to come.
* Note: 傳 here is a noun, so it should be pronounced as zhuàn, NOT chuán! I’ve seen a few sites romanized the Chinese title as Anhe Chuan which is incorrect.
Blood River is the realm’s most feared assassin guild, jointly run by the Su, Mu, and Xie clans. They can strike royals in court and crush great sects in the wild. When the patriarch is poisoned on a mission, the three clans vie for the top seat. Su Muyu leads the Spider-Shadow unit and shields the dying leader on the road to a cure. He clashes with elder Su Zhe and old friend Su Changhe, and meets master healer Bai Hehuai. After brutal power struggles, Su Changhe becomes new patriarch and Su Muyu heads the Su clan. They launch the “Other Shore Plan” to drag Blood River out of the shadow and forge a new destiny, free from being anyone’s blade.
