This song is the opening credits theme song to Taiwanese BL web drama, HIStory 3 – Make Our Days Count (HIStory 3 《那一天》). The first time I heard the song late last year, I thought it was good but not really memorable. At the time I did try to search for the drama to watch online but was not able to find any results, well, only preview or promos but no full episodes, so I totally put it out of my mind.

Forever Your Dad – Leehom Wang 王力宏
Just finished listening to the new song from Leehom Wang which came out yesterday, it is a tear-jerker… The background to the song from Leehom:
“My high school buddy Dave Neufeglise reached out to me back in July 2018 with an e-mail that I’ll never forget. He’d been diagnosed with ALS, and had written a poem for his three young daughters, about some of the most important things he wanted them to know. Having three young children of my own, this poem went straight to my heart, and setting it to music (Dave likes country music, so I used a bit of a Nashville singing style) has been a great honor and a meaningful journey. Countless times during the process, I teared up in the studio, imagining those iconic images, one after another, that Dave writes about. They are fleeting rites of passage that might seem mundane at the time, yet when placed in the context of the song, the fatherly love embedded inside each is revealed and felt. A father’s love for his daughter is like nothing else in the world. The same goes for a song that truly comes from the heart.” – Wang Leehom

Onion 洋蔥 – Aska Yang 楊宗緯
An old song from 2008 that is still so beautifully sad to listen to… The song was written especially for Aska by Ashin (阿信). Ashin is the vocalist of the Taiwanese band Mayday (五月天), who also recorded the song in 2013. Also in May, 2013, TF Family (TF家族, now known as TFBoys), a young boy band from Chongqing recorded the song on video, using the song to look for the mother of one of the band members, who abandoned him when he was very young, and the video went viral. Ashin saw the video and posted it on his facebook, and in 2019, invited Karry (王俊凱), one of the TFBoys members, to sing the song in one of their concerts.

Most Popular Mandopop Music Videos (Part 1) YouTube 破億華語歌曲(一)
I can’t believe January 2020 is almost over, where has the time gone so quickly? I was going to do a post on most popular Chinese movie songs of the last decade since The Oscars is just around the corner, but as usual I got sidetracked while trying to compile a list, LOL. While doing some research, I came across a list of the Chinese songs that are the most watched music videos on YouTube. The list was for the Chinese songs that first hit 100 million views in the last ten years. So I thought, why not, and immediately abandoned my initial intention of just listing movie songs! This list is arranged by the first 20 Mandopop songs to achieve 100 million hits by timeline (that is when they first attended 100 million views), so they are not the on-going list of the current most watched music videos which will continue to change day by day.

Say Meow Meow – Panpan & Fengfeng 學貓叫 – 小潘潘 & 小峰峰
To all the cat lovers… A little silliness for the new year, it is the year of the rat, so what about a song about rat’s “best” friend? The chorus will stick in your head, be warned, hahaha…

The Sound of Falling Snow 雪落下的聲音(電視劇《延禧攻略》片尾曲)
This song is the closing credits song from the 2018 Chinese period TV drama Story of Yanxi Palace (延禧攻略). I have never watched the 70-episode series, so the first time I heard the song was from the third season of the reality singing show Sound of My Dream (夢想的聲音). I love the song, so I went and searched for the original track sung by Rover Lu (陸虎), and love that version too which fitted with the mood of the drama. If you have watched the episode of Sound of My Dream where J J Lin covered the song, you would have noticed he interpreted it differently. Well, that is because he was given the criteria which was to perform the song with a “dazzling, splendour, grandeur” arrangement (歌曲限定詞:金碧輝煌).
