Dai Suk’s Love is the first BL series from Hong Kong, a remake of the Japanese one-off episode from 2016, and also a 7-episode series from 2018, Ossan’s Love 大叔的愛. The series premiered on June 28, 2021 with 15 episodes in total. According to reports, the first episode broke the record as the most watched episode ever on ViuTV streaming platform. I have yet to watch this remake series but reviewers have been quite positve as it is quite faithful to the original Japanese version, which I did enjoy watching. Call It What You Want 2 จะรักก็รักเหอะ2 (Thai Series OST)
OK, I must admit I gave up on watching season 1 of Call It What You Want 戀愛無名氏 after 3 episodes due to the plot being told so slowly it sent me to sleep, LOL… I know they have good intention of showing us what happens behind the scenes of the BL industry, but like many BL shows, the plots are usually simple yet they told it in such a way that it drags along without anything much happening for most of the time, just a lot of fan-service scenes. So you might be asking, why am I bothering with the upcoming Season 2 now? Well, it is because of the OST!

Golden Blood รักมันมหาศาล (Thai Series OST)
Golden Blood is a new BL series from Thailand that premiered on June 23, 2021. This is a bodyguard/gangsters story which thankfully is moving away from the omnipresent Thai BL series set inside universities. The proper OST is not available yet, but they have released 2 songs sung by the two lead actors.

Hometown’s Embrace อ้อมกอดบ้านเกิด (Thai Series OST)
Stumbled onto this new 8-episode BL series from Thailand called Hometown’s Embrace. I have not heard of this series until it popped up as a YouTube recommendation. It looks like it is a web series, as I have not seen or heard any promotion for it? Episode 1 is now available to watch on YouTube, and it looks interesting with the story set in the countryside of Isan, northeast Thailand. Thus the setting has that same feeling of the rural areas of Thailand in 1000 Stars which is refreshing from all the university BL settings. I also like the theme song, so here it is…

Random Ramblings on BL Novels – Jiang Chao Ge and the Spirit Weapon 魂兵之戈
Jiang Chao Ge and the Spirit Weapon 魂兵之戈 is a fantasy, action adventure genre BL novel written in 2014 by Shui Qian Cheng 水千丞, who also wrote the 188 series of BL novels. It is also the third novel in this genre from this author I’ve read after Dragon Blood 龍血 (also called Foster Father 養父) written in 2012, and The Return of Cambrian Period 寒武再臨 written in 2013.

Love Area the Series ครั้งหนึ่งเราเคยรักกัน is a new 10-episode Thai BL TV series that was scheduled to premiere last month, May 8, 2021, but was postponed. The new premiere date has not been announced yet. The theme song, Stay Together แค่เธออยู่, is sung by Jeff Satur.

Kaleidoscope of Death (Audio Drama Theme Song) 廣播劇《死亡萬花筒》主題曲
Welcome into the world of doors 歡迎進入門的世界! I have just started reading this BL novel, Kaleidoscope of Death 死亡萬花筒, by Xi Zi Xu 西子緒 which is a highly recommended Chinese BL novel. It has a very unusual BL story with mystery, horror, supernatural, and suspenseful plotlines. At the moment, I have just reached the second door, and the clue is based around the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tale, Fitcher’s Bird, so you can imagine where the story is going… As I was searching for songs from the audio drama, there is a song based on the Japanese children’s game of Kagome Kagome, so I am guessing another door leads to that in the later part of the novel… I won’t say too much about it yet as I am still very early into the novel, but I have to say after discovering Chinese BL novels, I have almost given up on watching BL TV series as nearly 80% of the TV series have very boring, amateurish plots. The only thing that keeps me interested in many of the current BL TV series is just the OST, LOL… If you are not afraid of reading horror stories, Novel Updates has the novel translated into English – I have just checked and they have virtually completed the translation just a few days ago.

Random Ramblings on BL Novels – Miracle 奇蹟 by Lin Peiyu 林珮瑜
Miracle 奇蹟 is a new BL novel from Taiwanese screenwriter/author, Lin Peiyu 林珮瑜, that was released in book format on April 20, 2021. For those of you who are not familiar with this author, Lin Peiyu penned the screenplays for a few of the Taiwanese HIStory BL series (HIStory: Obsessed 著魔, HIStory2: Right or Wrong 是非, HIStory2: Crossing the Line 越界, & HIStory3: Trapped 圈套) and also the recently aired WBL series (We Best Love: No. 1 For You 永遠的第一名 & We Best Love: Fighting Mr. 2nd 第二名的逆襲). On the day of the release of the book, the publisher uploaded a 5-minute teaser video to promote the book which got me confused thinking it was a teaser for a new TV series because it looked so real like a TV drama! That teaser video even has two theme songs, and one of the songs was uploaded last week, which I have included below.

Ano Kiss あのときキスしておけば (Japanese TV OST)
Ano Toki Kiss Shite Okeba, or just Ano Kiss, is a new Japanese TV series that premiered on April 30, 2021. It is an 8-episode comedy series with the title of the series translated as If You Kissed Me Then or in Chinese, 要是當時吻了他／如果那時候接吻的話. So far, two episodes have aired and I really enjoyed both episodes as they are very funny, the third episode should go to air tonight in Japan. It is a soul-transfer story, that is a female soul ended up in a male body, and after epsiode one, it sort of turned into Ossan’s Love plotline, LOL… I know many BL fans do not accept this type of female-soul-in-a-male-body plot as BL, but I don’t mind, so I will tag it as BL. As long as the story is interesting and captivating, I will watch it and it already has a 8.1/10 ratings at Douban at the moment with nearly 50% of the viewers giving it 4 stars out of 5.
