Season 17 of The Great British Bake Off premiered on September 22, 2026 in the UK. This year Nigella Lawson debuts as a judge replacing Prue Leith after Prue decided to retire at the end of Season 16, so I thought I would do a post for this new season to archive some of the recipes…

Cake Week
Great to see another happy bunch of bakers again this year… I think my favourite season was Season 14, and the last two seasons were good as well. There were a few seasons in the middle that the contestants seemed so miserable and nervous that they were not enjoyable to watch… Anyway the first episode gave us a couple of disasters with two cakes ending up on the floor, a contestant feeling unwell during the Showstopper bake, Paul unwittingly saying the nut size is huge, and what the heck is sticky willy, LOL… The clue for the technical bake from Nigella was an illustration of the finished cake with no recipe given! Oh and just to clarify about the question that Paul asked the wheelchair baker, it is NOT “Why do you sit?”, I thought that was a very horrible odd question on first listen, but after double checking, he actually asked, “Why do you sift?” regarding the flour…
