Carter Reed (American Vertical Series)
Carter Reed is a 65-episode vertical series that dropped on May 22, 2026 on ReelShort. The drama series is inspired by the novel series of the same name by Tijan Meyer. I haven’t watched it yet but the male lead is Jared Staub who was also in Jacked Janitor vs Golden Boy which I really enjoyed so this new one is on my list to watch, LOL… Anyway since it is based on a novel, I think the story should be solid as well…

Djinn Under Contract is a 67-episode vertical series that dropped on May 21, 2026 on ReelShort. This is something different from the ubiquitous plots of so many vertical series as it is a supernatural genre with a genie as the central character. Among all the recycled tropes of vertical series, this is also one of the few that reverses the gender focus being that the male lead is the one that is being treated badly by the female lead. Only one other vertical drama that I’ve watched has this same plotline which is America’s Favorite Ex-Husband from 2025. This new series is nothing groundbreaking as such but a refreshing break from the usual tropes of vertical dramas…

Zhan Zhao Adventures 雨霖鈴 is a 37-episode Chinese wuxia drama series which premiered on May 13, 2026. It is adapted from the webnovel Yu Lin Ling 雨霖鈴 (translated as Bells Ringing in the Rain, the term was from a tune originated from the Tang Dynasty Imperial Music Bureau 唐代教坊曲) by minifish 小魚, which is a fanfic reinterpretation and reiteration of the classic 1879 Chinese martial arts novel, The Seven Heroes and Five Gallants 七俠五義. If you think the two main protagonists, Zhan Zhao 展昭 and Bai Yutang 白玉堂, sound familiar, it is because they both appear as BL characters in two series of BL webnovels by Er Ya 耳雅, both series are also reinterpretation of the same classic novel – S.C.I. Mystery Series ＳＣＩ謎案集 (series adaptation in 2018) which is the modern reinterpretation (currently 6 volumes), while Dragon Pattern Scroll Set 龍圖案卷集 is the historical reinterpretation (currently 3 volumes).

Pucked by My Hockey Rival 被我的冰球對手撞進心裡 is a 32-episode AI animated BL series that dropped around May 6, 2026 (?) on DramaWave. However I have come to realize that with AI series, it is very hard to find the original official source of premiere especially as I believe this is another Chinese animated AI series, and there are pirated copies all over the internet. They have released an OST on a Chinese music platform with music generated by AI too! I was perplexed about whether to make this post under the OST or Random Ramblings heading, but since the music are all AI generated, I have decided that they are not real music with no actual composers or singers, so in the end I have decided to put this under the Random Ramblings heading… However I will provide the links to the OST below for anyone interested…
