Fake Slackers 偽裝學渣 and Beyond the Outline 這題超綱了 are two high school BL novels by Mu Gua Huang 木瓜黄. They are both high school slice-of-life sweet, funny stories that would be good for brainless light reading during the holidays. I read Fake Slackers (also translated as Underachiever Pretenders) earlier this year and currently reading Beyond the Outline which has a body-swapping plotline, I didn’t mind Fake Slackers but not something I would go back to read again, and Beyond the Outline seems to be going in the same direction for me as the plots seem to be a bit forced, LOL… However for those of you who don’t like angst and prefer sweet stories, these novels might be up your alley.

The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window さんかく窓の外側は夜 (Japanese Anime OST)
The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window さんかく窓の外側は夜 (Sankaku Mado no Sotogawa wa Yoru, Chinese title is 三角窗外是黑夜) is a 12-episode Japanese BL anime series that aired from October 3, 2021 to December 19, 2021. It is adapted from the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Yamashita Tomoko ヤマシタトモコ that was first serialised in 2013. Antidote 解藥 (Novel & Drama OST)
Yesterday I was browsing through Jinjiang Literature City looking for a new online novel to read for the holiday season, and also looking at the Top 200 BL novels on that site for new popular novels. Alas, I was quite dismayed to find that two of the top 3 novels I checked last time in August have disappeared from the list. I quickly did a search and realized that the two novels have been banned in China since just a couple of months ago, WHAT?! That means we can no longer read them on the official site. One of the novels was one of my favourite BL novels, Saye 撒野!

Paint with Love ใส่รักป้ายสี (Thai Series OST)
Paint with Love ใส่รักป้ายสี (Thai title translated literally as Put Label on Love) is a new 8-episode Thai BL series that premiered on November 26, 2021. This is the second series on air at the moment with Singto Prachaya (SOTUS, SOTUS S, He’s Coming to Me) as one of the main leads, his other series being broadcast currently is Baker Boys. I’ve watched the first episode and I really enjoyed it. Also happy to see another familiar face, Maengmum Tanshi Bumrungkit (Yiwha from Together with Me) appearing in this series!

【Manju 漫劇】Drunk in Love 一醉經年 (The 188 Series)
Just came across this manhua drama of Drunk in Love, or also translated as Years of Intoxication 一醉經年 (one of the 188 series), hmmm, very surprised indeed! I knew the novel has been serialised into manhua since the beginning of this year, but it looks like they have turned it into something called manju now… Manju is a new term meaning a combination of manhua + video + drama, so it is still slightly different to dongman or donghua.

WBL Boys’ Vacation 微波爐男孩的假期 (Taiwanese Reality TV OST)
WBL Boys’ Vacation is an 8-episode reality TV show featuring the 6 actors from the two seasons of the WBL TV series from earlier this year. It premiered on November 12, 2021 and will continue airing new episode every Friday night. Very interesting with the play on words with the WBL name in Chinese 微波爐 which means microwave oven, so in Chinese the title translated as Microwave Oven Boys’ Vacation, LOL… Well, it is because the pinyin of 微波爐 is wei bo lu which abbreviated as wbl, very clever, LOL… It also has the connotation that they are the generation who only know how to use microwave oven and don’t know how to cook, and now they have to go camping without any microwave oven! Anyway the audio theme song has just been released and it is performed by the 6 actors. The official MV of the song will premiere on November 19, 2021.

Breaking Through the Clouds (Audio Drama OST) 廣播劇《破雲》主題曲
Currently reading this BL webnovel, Poyun 破雲 written by Huai Shang 淮上, first uploaded online starting in December 2017 and the main story completed in July 2018, then 6 more extra epilogue chapters completed in September 2018. The novel has been translated into English as Breaking Through the Clouds. It is a crime investigation story involving illegal drugs and murders. I’m about 30-something chapters in at the moment and it is a very plot driven story. If you like Modu 默讀 by Priest, you are going to love this too. Whereas Modu is quite heavy reading, Poyun has quite a lot of humour, especially between the two protagonists, to break the heaviness of the main plot.
